History of Dun Laoghaire Harbour Lecture 22nd March 2017

 ILLUSTRATED LECTURE

 “SOME HISTORY OF DUN LAOGHAIRE HARBOUR, 1817-2017”

2017 marks the 200th. anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone for the 

great Harbour of Dun Laoghaire.  Cormac F. Lowth be presenting a vast array of

 rare and interesting illustrations and photographs along with a host of informative

 facts about a great many aspects of the Harbour over the past two hundred years.

He will be looking at the old Harbour of Dunleary, the building of the great Harbour

 of Refuge, the transition to Kingstown, and later Dun Laoghaire, and  these will

 include the naval presence, yachting activities, shipwrecks, the R.N.L.I., fishing,

 maritime commerce, mailboats, and much more.

 

The meeting will commence with the launch of a new copy of the Society’s journal

which has been specially commissioned to mark the occasion of the 200th. 

anniversary of the Harbour. It is entitled “A Safe Anchorage” and it contains a great

 many articles about the Harbour that have  published in the Society’s journals over

 the years. Price is €8
