The Ball has arrived @dlharbour

 

It’s officially event day!

Our team are on site & just putting the finishing touches on everything down in Dun Laoghaire Harbour!

Just a few housekeeping things to take note of, to help make sure there are no hiccups on arrival or while you are enjoying The Ball today.

IMPORTANT ATTENDEE INFORMATION

  1. Please download the Eventbrite app to your phone, with your tickets ready or have your physical ticket printed for inspection once you get to the venue – all bar codes will be scanned on arrival & there will be NO RE-ENTRY!

If you have bought a ticket from a third party and not from the UCD & DIT SU Shops or our official ticketing service on our site/Eventbrite, you do so at your own risk!

  1. Please ensure you have both a valid student ID & Government ID with you – acceptable forms of each are below.

The following forms of photo identification are acceptable once they are in date:

  • Valid Passport
  • Driving Licence/Learner Permit
  • National ID Card/Government Issued Photo ID Card including Garda National Age Card

The following forms of student ID are acceptable once they are in date:

  • Student ID Card issued in Republic of Ireland by a 3rd Level Institute
  • International Student Identity Card (ISIC)
  • Student Leap Card

*In exceptional circumstances organisers may accept a letter from your education provider in lieu of student ID. This is at the discretion of the organiser & is not guaranteed.

  1. Gates open at 3pm & last entry to the event will be 7pm, we would encourage all attendees to get down early to enjoy the full day.
  2. No outside food or drink will be allowed on site and ALL attendees will be searched on entry. We have a great selection of items available in our Food Yard.
  3. Dublin Bus will be operating 46A buses exclusively at the exit of the festival – they will accept LEAP cards and normal cash payments.
  4. Forbidden Items – the following items are not permitted within the Festival venue and will be confiscated if found on your person:

Alcohol may NOT be brought in from outside – there are bars within the venue which will be selling a selection of beer, wine, cider & spirits.

  • Drugs
  • Glass items
  • Flares or Lasers
  • Selfie sticks
  • Poles or Umbrellas
  • Furniture
  • Drones
  1. If you feel unwell, please contact a member of our medical team. Your safety is our prioity and there will be no judgement and it will be confidential.

 

9. Getting to & from The Ball

We advise all attendees to make use of public transport as parking spaces are very limited in the surrounding area – the festival will be serviced by the DART, the 46A & the 75 buses and Lynk taxis will also be servicing the area.

Please check www.transportofireland.ie to route your journey.

10. We aim to make this an annual event and we would ask that all students abide by all legal by-laws pertaining to alcohol in public areas, noise pollution, littering etc. Please adhere to the direction from our stewards & security as well as An Garda Siochana and please be mindful of our neighbours when exiting the venue.

Please be safe and enjoy the day – this is your end of year party and we want it to be as much fun as possible for you!

Dun Laoghaire Harbour to welcome 100,000 visitors to celebrate Bicentenary

 Dun Laoghaire is set for a summer of celebrations to mark the Harbours 200th anniversary. The Dun Laoghaire Harbour Bicentenary Steering Group has announced its programme of activities to coincide with the milestone event.

The Opening Ceremony will be officiated by President Michael D Higgins & the groups Patron Minister Mary Mitchell O Connor on 31st May. Other featured events include an International Harbour Food Festival featuring over 25 unique vendors (4th & 5th June), a live Viking Invasion re-enactment with longboats as seen on the hit TV Show ‘Vikings’ (20th August) and The Kingstown 200 Classic Boat Race (8th July).

100,000 visitors are expected to visit the Harbour this summer to participate in the free public events.

The Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company in collaboration with a range of local stakeholders have put in place a schedule of exhibitions, workshops, lectures and events to mark the Bicentenary.

Gerry Dunne, CEO of Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company: said “the programme of events throughout the summer reflects the cultural and historical role the Harbour has played not just in Dun Laoghaire but in its wider environs over the past 200 years”. Thanking all those who worked tirelessly on the project, Mr Dunne said “the Bicentenary will bring a welcome boost to the local economy and reinforce the sense of public pride in one of the country’s greatest landmarks”.

Gavin James confirmed to headline The Ball at Dun Laoghaire Harbour

The Ball has announced their line up for the Intervarcity festival this coming April 2017.

Headlining is Irish Singer Songwriter Gavin James along with Bakermat Live, Route 94, Waze & Odyssey, Hare Squead, Smash Hits, Mark Mc Cabe and many more

Dun Laoghaire Hosts Ireland First Intervarcity Festival

The Ball is coming to Dun Laoghaire Harbour this April 28th 2017.

The event is Ireland’s first student only intervarsity festival with an estimated 7,000 entrants, two stages, a gourmet food yard, fun fair and over 20 artists performing.

This unique event takes place in the Ferry Terminal Compound overlooking the harbour.

Dun Laoghaire Regatta 2017 – Classics Programme Confirmed

The Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta takes place this 6-9th July 2017.

Its one of the biggest events of the harbour sailing calendar and involves all 4 yacht clubs Dun Laoghaire Yacht clubs and entrants from the sailing community nationwide and overseas.

To celebrate the Harbour Bicentenary the committee have added to the race schedule to include a unique classic boat race to celebrate the harbours bicentenary. The race will see international and local classic boats taking part.

Launches Dun Laoghaire Harbour Bicentenary Steering Group

 Minister Mary Mitchell O Connor today became Patron of the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Bicentenary programme

Convening in the historic Harbour Lodge in Dun Laoghaire, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation met the members of the Steering Group, which includes the Pavilion Theatre, DLR County Council, the RNLI, the Coal Harbour Users Group, The National Maritime Museum, Dalkey Heritage Centre, a representative of the 4 Yacht Clubs, the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company and Dun Laoghaire Business Improvement District (BID).

The Bicentenary Steering Group met to discuss a series of initiatives to commemorate and celebrate the 200 year history of this historic harbour.

May 31st 1817 saw the laying of the first stone in the creation of one of the world’s finest man-made harbours , originally named as “The Royal Harbour of King George 1V at Kingstown”

Gerry Dunne, CEO of Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company said ” this is an incredibly exciting initiative , of national and international significance. We will be engaging with members of the Irish Diaspora all over the world, so that we can gather relevant stories and memorabilia, and create a legacy both online and physical, a legacy which this special place fully deserves”

THE BEATYARD at Dun Laoghaire Harbour- August 1st & 2nd!

After celebrating its 10th edition last year, THE BEATYARD is going coastal this August 1st & 2nd and relocating to the sunniest part of Dublin – Dun Laoghaire Harbour!

PROMS ON THE PIER- 70’s and 80’s music event – 29th & 30th August

proms on the pierProms On The Pier is Dublin’s festival of 70’s & 80’s nostalgia. Air Supply Music, 10cc, Phil Coulter, Bjorn Again, Midge Ure, Johnny Logan, Melanie McCabe & lots more Taking place in —- Dun Laoghaire Harbour —– on August 29th & 30th.

Over 14 musical acts will entertain 5,000 guests per day in an outdoor and fully reserved seating event. Each day’s entertainment will commence at 4.30pm and finish spectacularly at 10.30pm. There will be full bar and food facilities on-site throughout the weekend.

The Plunge- are you tough enough?

the plungeThe Plunge, took place on Saturday 23rd of May- a bungee jump on the Carlisle Pier in Dun Laoghaire Harbour. Standing at 160 foot, overlooking the horizon, The Plunge is an aerial challenge that will push participants out of their mental and emotional comfort zone whilst supporting a worthy cause.
